Our Storied Present

Anita Lapidus, President, and Kelley Myers, Interim Executive Director

Since ancient times, stories have played an integral role in shaping every culture. They are tools to teach, entertain, chronicle history and transmit values. That is why we thought it appropriate to choose the theme "Sharing our Stories" for our second Community Impact Report. We introduced the report last year as a way to measure our impact and share our findings with the community. Our Community Impact Report has become a way to demonstrate our values, chronicle some of the activities of our past year and shares the wisdom we have gained from them.

This year has been an eventful one. We celebrated the tenth anniversary of our David Kelley Services unit, as well as our receipt of the first Immigrant Success Award (Mid-Size Employer) from the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council. We said farewell to our Executive Director Yves Savoie, under whose spirited leadership FSA launched several exciting, mission-driven initiatives and continued our history of excellence. We look forward to welcoming Margaret Hancock to the role in July 2007. We also enthusiastically welcomed our first individual $100,000 donation toward our Let’s Make Better Stories Possible fundraising campaign, setting us on surer footing to achieve our philanthropic goals.

Our story is one of successes, challenges and learning. We thank the community members, volunteers and staff who consulted on this report, helping to guide the content and demonstrate our progress on achieving our mission of strengthened families and individuals in just and supportive communities. We are also thankful to a number of clients who have allowed us to share our impact through their stories in this report.

Of course, FSA Toronto’s impact is the result of the collective effort of hundreds of people on the front lines and behind the scenes. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff, who bring unwavering passion to our mission and compassion to our services. Because of their efforts, there are thousands of people in Toronto whose lives have been made better by the work of FSA Toronto.

We owe our gratitude to the many volunteers who have chosen to share their time, talents and valuable perspective with us. In particular, thank you to the members of our volunteer board, whose considerable time, efforts and decision making guide our agency toward an even stronger future.

Finally, we would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the United Way, our government funders and to FSA Toronto’s donors who share our vision for stronger families and communities. We are truly grateful for your partnership and your investment in our agency and our mission. Without your support, we would not have achieved the impact we did this year or had these positive stories to share.

Thank you.
