CND is involved in a series of new projects: (April 10)
Aging at Home
A new and Innovative project developed in cooperation with St. Clare’s
Multifaith Housing Society, Margaret Frazer House and Seaton House that assures
that frail seniors who are or have been homeless can age at home.
O’Connor-Teesdale Community Development Planning
A FSA Toronto – CND project funded by the United Way to facilitate
community development planning for grassroots groups and agencies in
the O’Connor Teesdale area.

Four projects that are part of the United Way’s Strong Neighbourhoods
Strategy (http://www.uwgt.org/whoWeHelp/neighbourhoodStrategy/neighbourhoodStrategy.php) taking
place in the 13 priority neighbourhoods with the aim of building more resources
into those communities.
180 Sudbury Ave. and 200 Madison Ave. Planning
Table
A partnership between St. Clare’s Multifaith Housing Society,
City of Toronto and FSA Toronto to build by 2010 two new mixed use
family buildings that will accommodate 278 families. The project is
based on Pear’s – Leonard Avenue project.
TCHC Mental Health Steering Committee
FSA Toronto participates on the TCHC Mental Health Steering Committee
to provide a community development and research lens to TCHC’s
mental health policy development.
KIDS (Knowledge, Imagination, Diversity, Social Skills) Homework
Clubs
Project developed by FSA Toronto and carried out in partnership with
the United Way Priority Neighbourhoods to assist newcomers’ children
to be successful in school. Participant children have the opportunity
to improve their skills in English, math and to get extra ESL training
if they need it.

We are saddened by the passing of Mr. Augustine Jeyanathan, a community activist and member of the Family Service Association of Toronto family. Augustine passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2007 after a brief illness. Read full article

Building Bridges Project completed (June 2007)
Building Bridges Graduation Day (March 2007)
On Saturday, March 24, 2007, the Building Bridges Program held a graduation celebration at Lawrence Heights Community Centre. Women and youth, participants in Building Bridges activities for the past four months, celebrated the completion of the program together with community members, friends, family and program staff. Seniors Flock to Illahee Community Connection Launch (December 2006)
On November 27, 2006, FSA Toronto’s Community and Neighbourhood Development Unit launched the Illahee Community Connection (ICC) initiative for seniors from Iranian, Somali and Tamil communities of Scarborough and North York. Read more >>
Building Bridges program update (September 2005)
Building Bridges is a program developed by the Community Action Team in partnership with Lawrence Heights Community Health Centre and funded by an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant of $164,600 over three years. The goal of this program is to contribute to the building of capacity and community harmony among Horn of Africa communities. On March 9, 2005, at the library of Woodbine Junior High School , FSA’s Community and Neighbourhood Development (CND) and a group of Iranian-Canadian social service providers organized the “Demystifying Mental Illness” workshop in collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) .
