GUHD Programs and Partner Agencies

GUHD programs:

At GUHD we work in coalition with organizations across the city to highlight the issues facing families and work towards systemic change. We are community focused and community driven.

We offer parent relief, workshops and community kitchens as well as fitness and post-natal programs for moms and their babies. We deliver school readiness programs, reading circles and drop-ins for caregivers with their children.

1. Parent Relief
Free, short-term supervised childcare offered to families with children aged 0-6 years when parents need respite.

This hands-on training program is offered to people who want to offer childcare in their home or provide occasional care in the community. The goal is to expand the availability of quality

School readiness program focused on children aged 3 to 5 years who will be entering kindergarten.

1. Tiny Tots Day Camp
A daily program delivered to children aged 3 to 5 years. The program offers social recreational programs with a particular focus on physical activity, nutrition, literacy, arts and crafts and the opportunity to explore Toronto.

2. Women’s Health Circle
Program for women utilizing a holistic approach to health including non-traditional approaches to issues such as smoking cessation, safe sexual practices and physical wellness.

3. Parent Education and Support Group
Program for parents focused on cultivating self-esteem and ongoing, peer-based social supports by offering workshops on a wide range of topics.

1. Parent Child Drop In Program
This program promotes fostering the relationship between parents/caregivers and children 2 ½ to 6 years.

2. Parent Advisory Committee Committee of parents/caregivers participating in HCC programs who meet to discuss issues related to programming and to organize fundraising and special events. Childcare and snacks are provided.

3. Babies Programs
Come out and enjoy an assortment of infant toys as you interact with other parents and babies. Enjoy informal talks and networking with other parents

Program Pre-school children and their parents/caregivers are given the opportunity to enhance early reading, writing, math and creative skills.

2. Parent Relief
This program provides free on-site childcare for children 0 to 6 years old.

3. Summer Day Camp
Seven week daily summer program for pre-school children. Focus is on active indoor and outdoor programming that is stimulating and fun.

4. Music and Movement
Program combines music with physical movement for children and their parents/caregivers to enjoy together.

5. Indoor Playgrounds
Offers parents/caregivers and children a wide range of gross motor activities that promote physical activity.

1. Educational Workshops Program provides opportunities to experience a wide range of sites and activities available in Toronto -ie, farms, community parks, and other outdoor activities. Children's Festival, a large community event, is held each July with hundreds of kids participating.

1. Vietnamese Parents' Program
Bi-weekly program for Vietnamese parents to learn, share experiences and make new friends.

2. Individual Support and Referral
Individual family support provided on an occasional, as needs basis to families dealing with issues relating to the health and well-being of families and young children.

3. Chinese Parent Program
Weekly drop-in program for Chinese parents, Mandarin and Cantonese speaking, who have children aged 0-6. Delivered in partnership with South Riverdale Community Health Centre.

4. Parent Education and Support Program for parents focused on cultivating self-esteem and ongoing, peer-based social supports by offering workshops on a wide range of topics.
