FAIR Advisory Council Volunteers

FAIR is looking for TWO parents or caregivers who have been a part of parent action groups or other FAIR activities and are interested in being a part of shaping the FAIR project. The project lasts until Dec 2008 and ideally we would like to have a commitment from you for the life of the project. Job Description

The Advisory provides support to the FAIR coordinator in order to guide the project and its activities. It is a place to share concerns, to give voice to experiences and to express ideas for creating change.

The goal of the Advisory is to ensure the successful completion of FAIR project activities and meeting the outcomes set out in the proposal. The group meets once a month, usually on the last Tuesday of the month. At that meeting, the members provide suggestions about issues and ask questions to get more clarity on activities – even on how FAIR activities are helping to improve our understanding of social inclusion and working inclusively with families.

Role of the Committee:

  • To represent the concerns and interests of families using GUHD programs and services;
  • To represent the concerns and interests of parents/caregivers, sponsoring agency, GUHD MC or GUHDnet that each member is representing;
  • Serve as a resource for problem solving, creating opportunities and supporting milestones being met;
  • Reporting back to respective committees with coordinator;
  • Making commitments and decisions together.

Accountability to the funder is shared by all GUHD partners however, the FAIR advisory is accountable to keep the GUHD partnership informed of any changes or concerns in a timely manner to maximize the benefit of the FAIR project for families with young children.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Advisory carries out FAIR work in keeping with GUHD processes and principles and in keeping with all the articles in the Advisory Terms of Reference;
  • Work with the coordinator in clarifying the roles of GUHD partners in carrying out the work plan as per the working document “FAIR project task list”;
  • Vet documents communicating information to the community at large such as newsletters, website updates, etc. for the FAIR project;
  • Ensure a combination of commitment to the advisory of Management committee, GUHDnet, sponsoring agency and a balance of project long commitment and 12 month representatives;
  • Ensure timely and sufficient sharing/transfer of information with newly appointed members to the Advisory to ensure consistency of support to the FAIR project and its coordinator. As an Advisory member you should be able to commit to the FAIR project for at least one year of time.
