Community Initiatives: Independent Seekers Group
Program description
The Independent Seekers Group group is made up of young adults who encourage each other to think about the barriers in their lives that stop them from achieving independence and pursuing their dreams, and seek ways to remove those barriers.
The group is now working with Joel Regehr on a Community Based Research Project funded through McMaster University. The group members developed presentations on their personal stories, rights and the importance of inclusion and are presenting them to education students at York and Ryerson university. The purpuse is to measure the impact of hearing personal stories and the importance of inclusion from people who have lived the experience of segregation. The participants will be co-authors of the final research paper. After the project is over, the group will rethink its direction.
