courtesy Photo Sensitive, Campaign 2000 The Social Reform Unit of the Family Service Association of Toronto focuses on advocating for social policies and programs that enhance the quality of life for people in our community.
The Unit carries out the agency mission of achieving strengthened families and individuals in just and supportive communities through a number of ways.
We aim to accomplish:
- Public policies framed in social justice, which strengthen individuals, families and communities
- Inclusive communities of individuals and families capable of meeting their own needs, and working together in social action to achieve the common good.
Our mandate and activities:
Drawing on FSA's experience in serving at-risk individuals, families, and communities, the Social Action Committee and Social Reform Unit seek to influence public policy to achieve social and economic justice for all.
Often, we work in partnership with a wide range of community organizations to educate the public, advocate for change and take action on issues that affect people collectively.
Over the years, we have been involved in many aspects of public and community education, coalition building, advocacy work, action-oriented activities, and public policy review and development through our leadership role in Campaign 2000 and other initiatives and projects.
Our partners and networks:
The Social Reform Unit works with both groups/organizations and with individuals, including policy researchers, social planning councils, other professionals in public health, education, social work, grass-roots and community-based agencies, ethno-cultural and ethno-racial groups, social service providers, multi-faith groups, labour and community activists, and low-income people on issues of public concern.
We also play a leadership role in coordinating the activities of
a cross-Canada network called Campaign 2000 at the national and
provincial levels.
