Volunteers speak about their experience at FSA
I've always enjoyed volunteering at FSA because not only have there
been events that have interested me a great deal, but the people are
great to work with. I have volunteered at a number of events over the
past two years or so, which included the Make Poverty History Church
Wrap in June, 2005 — very exciting and educational, and also
the Campaign 2000/Social Reform’s Youth Action Committee, which
is a youth-led group dedicated to advocating for social change and
educating the public on issues of child and family poverty. Everybody
at FSA that I've known has always been extremely friendly, and it's
just a lot of fun. I continue to volunteer there as much as I can,
and definitely enjoy the rewarding experience that I get out of it.
Cindy, an FSA volunteer (currently attending
high school full-time)
I have been a volunteer facilitator in the Next Steps Programme for
about three years. I appreciate working with different leaders and
learning from program's participants experiences. I value most seeing
the men becoming experts of their own lives, then developing alternative
stories of their lives and choosing preferred ways of living and caring
for others. I will continue to attend as long as I am able and as long
as it is possible for FSA. May God continue to bless the work you do
for "For People." and "For Change."

I volunteered at FSA because I wanted to give something back to the
community. I got a great feeling of accomplishment when I volunteered
especially when I knew that my work will benefit a non-profit organization.
At FSA is a great work environment and everyone is nice and friendly – it
just makes you want to volunteer as much as you can. I would definitely
come back if and when I will have time to do it again.

Why I Volunteer at FSA Toronto?
I had an interest in doing some writing for a non-profit organization
to gain more experience in communications. I thought of approaching
Family Service Association of Toronto because I have been part of
their CN Tower stair climbing team on three occasions. I contacted
the volunteer coordinator who arranged an interview. On that same
day, I met Jo-Anne Liburd, the Marketing and Communication Manager
who immediately had assignments for me. It has been a very rewarding
experience. I have written thank you letters, articles for the website – I
even took the pictures for one event – and I have had the great
opportunity to write challenging articles for the FSA Toronto Catalyst
Magazine. All along Jo-Anne has been very encouraging and helpful
with her advice. Aside from honing my writing skills, there have
been unexpected and valuable benefits: the chance to interview very
interesting people and to learn a lot more about communities within
Toronto.

I am involved in many associations for very many years… especially
for the Tamil community in Toronto, but Family Service Association
is an organization which includes various ethnic groups in Toronto
living as brothers and sisters of one family – the FSA. I really
see and feel the unity in diversity for the development of humanity
as a whole in the FSA. It is really a pleasure to work with members
of various communities for a better understanding and peaceful living
as really decent citizens of Toronto.
