Post date: July 20, 2005

Event will raise awareness of poverty issues in Canada
This September, a gala event will take place in Toronto that will raise awareness and support for Campaign 2000, FSA Toronto and child poverty issues in Canada and around the world.
Entitled One X One , the event is being presented by Canada's Lou Adler Foundation and Data, a non-profit organization co-founded by Bobby Shriver and U2 lead singer, Bono. One X One emphasizes how individuals can make a better, safer world for all. The benefit will be held in Toronto’s trendy Distillery District on September 11.
Touted as “an extraordinary evening celebrating life and those that preserve it,” One X One will be hosted by Oscar nominated actress and Golden Globe winner Kate Hudson. The evening will feature a silent auction, intimate dinner and an exclusive after-party. A special musical guest is also scheduled to perform.
Fifty per cent of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Data’s global mission and 50 per cent to the Lou Adler Foundation. The Foundation has selected FSA Toronto and Campaign 2000 to be two of eight Canadian recipient charities. For more information and a full list of beneficiaries go to One X One website and click on "Lou Adler".
The Lou Adler Foundation was created by Joelle Berdugo Adler, a Montreal philanthropist and president of the apparel company Deisel Canada . The foundation honours the memory of her late husband, Lou, and continues their commitment to supporting the community that contributed to their success. The foundation supports numerous Canadian charities that aid poverty and sickness within Canada .
“Helping those less fortunate has always been part of our philosophy,” says Ms. Berdugo Adler. “We have had the privilege of representing one of the most successful brands in the world for 18 years, which has enabled us to participate in events and fulfill our obligations to those in need.”
Data is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to eliminate poverty in sub-Saharan Africa by raising awareness of the crises plaguing the region: debt, AIDS and trade. Data calls on governments of the world’s wealthy nations to put more resources towards Africa and to adopt policies that help the continent to achieve long-term prosperity.
