Remembered: Aloy Ratnasingam
Post date: December 13, 2005

It was with great sadness that we at FSA Toronto learned of the passing of Mr. Aloy Ratnasingam, a well-known community worker, activist and longtime volunteer with FSA Toronto.
An active member of our agency's Tamil Community Advisory Council since 1996 and a valued member of several committees, including the Illahee Community Advisory Committee, Mr. Ratnasingam's contribution to our committee discussions was immense. He brought considerable insight into senior issues and organized a number of programs for the Tamil and South Asian community at Illahee Lodge. Many South Asian seniors benefited from his efforts to obtain grants that offset the costs of attending Illahee and made the experience affordable for many more people.
Mr. Ratnasingam was a founder and president of the Senior Tamils Centre and vice-president of SACEM. In 2003, Mr. Ratnasingam received the Pat Fleming Award from FSA, which recognizes a volunteer who has given outstanding service to seniors and portrays the spirit of volunteerism, serving as a role model to others. He was also a one-time recipient of the Ontario Seniors Award, Ontario Volunteer Services Award for 15 years of service and the Tamils Information Award.
Mr. Ratnasingam passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 while attending a seniors meeting at the Oriole Community Centre. His legacy of dedication to community improvement and increasing the engagement of Tamils and Tamil seniors across Toronto will always serve as an example of inclusion and community pride for Torontonians.
