FSA Toronto receives two new grants
Good news from FSA's fundraising front:
David Kelley Services has received a $161,000
grant from The
Counselling Foundation of Canada for a new three-year internship
project. The project, called the Counselling Foundation
of Canada Internship in LGBT Counselling, is an opportunity for FSA
to share its expertise in working with LGBT communities and support
capacity building at other agencies to address LGBT issues. The internship
will provide highly specialized training to three new MSW graduates
who want to serve clients in LGBT communities, preferably outside
the metropolitan Toronto
area.
As part of the project FSA Toronto will also prepare a partner agency to develop LGBT counselling services in their community, and provide seminars of interest to any organizations who want to develop some of the competencies required to serve their LGBT clients.
Campaign 2000 has received a $188,500 grant over two years from the George Cedric Metcalf Foundation for a public education and outreach project around the issue of child and family poverty. The goal of the project is to ensure that the voices of individuals and families affected by poverty are reflected in the province's upcoming Poverty Reduction Plan. Campaign 2000's project is entitled An Ontario Poverty Reduction Plan: Engaging Low Income Communities and Other Stakeholders.
Through a series of community workshops, Campaign 2000 seeks to build the capacity of low-income communities to contribute to the development of the Poverty Reduction Plan, and help engage other stakeholder groups to support informed community collaboration.
These exciting projects add to a list of other new initiatives that received funding at the end of last year:
- $25,000 from New Horizons for FSA's Seniors programming in the areas of ageism and abuse;
- $10,000 from The Atkinson Foundation for general program support of Campaign 2000; and
- $38,000 in seed funding from the United Way in support of the Community & Neighborhood Development's community development project in the O'Connor-Teesdale area.
